Welcome to the first installment of Make a stand. Be the brand, a series of three stories that examine how to stay on brand, and why it’s important. We begin with a look at email signatures and voicemail greetings… Read on!

As Vale employees, we represent our company when we interact with customers, suppliers or people in the communities where we work. So, every time we send an email or answer the phone, it’s important to convey our brand properly.

Our brand is a summary of our values, our beliefs and our way of seeing the world. It represents our unique way of operating and contributing to a better future for all.

As a brand, we stand for respect, commitment and passion. Our collective personality is summed up by these four words: Dynamic. Confident. Partnership. Warm. And we communicate in a tone of voice that is clear, emotional, optimistic and friendly.

The more consistently we express our brand, the more successful we will be at conveying our philosophy and shaping with the way we’d like our company and our industry perceived.

For example, a Vale email should have the same look and feel whether it’s coming from Voisey’s Bay or Thompson, whether it’s sent by our colleagues in our Smelter, Maintenance Planning, Mine Engineering or Environment and so on. The same goes for outgoing voicemail messages.

The following guidelines will help set up or revise your personal email signature and voicemail greeting to reflect our corporate brand identity.

Font: Arial, black, 10 point
Your name
Your title
Your department (if applicable)

Site name
Phone number, Fax number
Email address

The ‘write’ way – This is an example of the right way to write your email signature to help reinforce our brand.

Note: Please do not include any images or logos in your email signature.

Your voicemail greeting should be the same as or similar to the following script:

Thanks for your call, you have reached [Your name, your title] at Vale. I am currently unable to take your call, but if you would like to leave me a message, please do so and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank you for this article! I try my best to stay current with any branding (and encourage others as well), especially when changes occur. I know the importance of company branding, and being consistent across the board.
