Not even a pandemic – or a change of address – could dim Sudbury’s Durkac Festival of Lights this year. “We will brighten up 2020 with 10,000 Christmas lights in my yard,” is how Derek Durkac, an 18-year Vale employee, described this year’s holiday extravaganza.
Every December, Derek sets up thousands of lights in his yard in support of his community and The Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive.
New this year:
- The 2020 festival has moved to a new location: 48 Severn Street (Donovan/Cambrian Heights Area, off of Burton Ave.).
- Santa will not be making special appearances.
- Non-perishable food items won’t be collected. Instead, an online donation to The Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive is requested. For more information, or to donate, click here.
“The money collected is a virtual component in our efforts to fight hunger and feed hope,” said Derek. “Every dollar collected generates $6 in food value.”
When to visit
Lights will be on from Thursday to Sunday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the following dates:
- December 3-6
- December 10-13
- December17-20
- December 24-27
